Earl John Langenwalter, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 1, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born January 15, 1929 in Fonda, son of John S. and Emma Salome Bress Langenwalter. He married Lois Ann Reding May 5, 1951 in San Diego, CA.
Earl graduated from Newell Consolidated High School and then attended the University of Iowa.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier and with the Internal Revenue Service as a manager in collections, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served with the Fleet Marines in Korea, during the Korean War. Earl was inspired to join the navy because his brother was killed in action on the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Waterloo; four sons, Mark (Elaine) of Lake City, MN, Steve (Michelle) of Cedar Falls, Christian (Carolyn) of Indianola and John of Milo; two daughters, Julie (Samuel) Smestad of Roanoke, TX and Lucy (Gary) Duncan of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1435 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, with private family burial in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN on Wednesday, May 8. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Hagarty - Waychoff - Grarup Funeral Service on 300 West Ridgeway Ave., Waterloo, and for an hour before services on Tuesday at the church.
