Edward L Barlean, 77, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adel. A Memorial Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 pm at the Church with a 7 pm Prayer service. Private burial will be at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Edward was born on March 5, 1937, in Leon, to Floyd and Mary (Bright) Barlean, Ed served in the U.S Marines from 1957-1960. He married Carole Hodson on February 10, 1962 in Waukee. Ed was employed with the US Army Corps of Engineers retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, and the American Legion Post 403 in Van Meter.

He is survived by his Wife, Carole, two Sons, Brian (Kathy) Barlean, Shawn (Shelly) Barlean; two Daughters, Holly Nizzi, Aileen (Bret) Bensley; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren,and several step grand and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, and one brother Michael.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church in Adel or the Van Meter American Legion.
