Edwin L. Fox, 95, of Northfield, MN, died December 27, 2012 after a brief illness.
Ed was born in Des Moines, IA and graduated from Grinnell College in 1939. He joined his father's feed company and was the president of Foxbilt Feeds for 21 years.
In 1962 he was appointed by President John Kennedy to be the director of the USAID Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia. He also worked for USAID in the Philippines. Later he served as an agricultural consultant in various parts of the world and worked to help countries develop small farmer cooperatives.
Ed was a trustee of Grinnell College and an active board member and fundraiser for several organizations. He served on his local school board and spearheaded a challenging school district reorganization plan. The result, the Southeast Polk school district, is now a premier school district in Iowa.
Ed and his wife Carol (Bobby) retired to Northfield in 1983 and immediately became involved in their new community. Ed worked with the Senior Center, the Northfield Historical Society and his condo association. He was elected to Rotary International in 1947 and was a lifelong member.
Ed touched many lives. He was particularly committed to helping students attend college, and he and his wife established endowed scholarships for deserving students.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Carol S. Fox, his daughter, Susan McKnight (William), his son, Stephen (Bunny); grandchildren Carol McKnight (Wayne Dilling), Roger Fox (Shelly), David McKnight; and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Anna Fox.
