Frank C. Lavia
Frank C. Lavia, 86 entered into eternal life on Friday January 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born on October 8, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Peter and Helen (Mulvaney) Lavia. He attended Lincoln High School in Des Moines until joining the US Navy in 1944. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy from 1944-1946 and came back to receive his high school degree from Des Moines Technical High School in 1946.
He Married Geraldine Madsen in September of 1947 and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in September of 2012.
Frank worked and retired from the Rock Island Railroad after 34 years as a train conductor.
Frank is survived by his wife Geraldine of Des Moines, sons, Frank Jr. (Joan) of Tucson, Arizona, Steve (Lynn), and his daughter Cindy Grant (Dale) of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his three grandsons, Michael Grant of Des Moines, Nicholas and Vincent Lavia of Phoenix, Arizona and his four granddaughters, Christina Leonard (David) Osceola, Iowa, Angela Grant (Pat McCarthy) and Stephanie Lavia of Des Moines and Gabrielle Lavia of Denver, Colorado. He is also blessed with six great grandchildren, Alaina and Elissa Lavia, Emma Grant, Talan and Caitilin Lenoard, and Collin McCarthy
A visitation will be held on January Monday January 21, 2013 at Holy Trinity Church from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 22, 2013 at 10 a.m at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial to follow in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic School.
