Glenn,age 90,passed away peacefully on June 2.Born on 9/25/1923 to John and Marie Atkinson,he attended MHS,graduating in 1941.Glenn then enlisted in the U.S.Navy,serving our country in WWII as a naval aviator.

Glenn's calling in life was math and numbers,so he then enrolled in the accounting program at the University of Iowa.He graduated in 1948 and began his 36 year career as a CPA withe the original McGladrey firm.He retired as a partner in January of 1984.

Glenn and Dorothy Kopel were married on 6/15/1957,and together they raised 3 children.He was an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan,and a dedicated alum.He enjoyed tennis and golf,and was a long-time member of the Elmwood CC,with 3 aces to his credit.

Glenn was a savvy investor and the financial markets were his passion until his final days.

Glenn's many social,vocational,and philanthropic interests include:American Legion Post 46;the AICPA;Marshalltown Public Library;MCC;Iowa Society of CPAs;St.Mary's Church.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents,and siblings:Burr Atkinson,Earl Atkinson,Leora Atkinson,and Orpha Davis.He is survived by his sister,Colleen Liming,wife Dorothy,children Mark(Carol)Atkinson,Mary Purdy,and Ann(Chris)Muehling. In addition,grandchildren Carter and Elizabeth Purdy,Ben and Sam Muehling,and step-grandchildren,Maddie and Patrick Minnick.Also surviving are many in-laws,nieces and nephews.Too many to name,but you know who you are.

The family will host a visitation on Thursday eve from 4-7pm at the Anderson Funeral Home.A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St.Mary's Church,followed by a reception at the Elmwood CC.

We ask that any memorial contributions be made in his name to the St.Mary's Catholic Church Endowment Fund or the Marshalltown Public Library.
