Harold R. "Junie" Jackson, Jr.
Harold R. Jackson, Jr. "Junie", 73 passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at Mercy Hospital. Harold was born April 2, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa to Harold R. Jackson, Sr. and Myrtle (Dameron) Jackson. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines.
Harold served in the United States Army with his tour in Paris, France and learned to speak fluent French. He worked at Wilson's Packing house for 16 years and retired from Des Moines Water Works after 16 years of service. He was an active member in the Hawkeye Elks Lodge #160 and was a Past Grand Exalted Ruler, P.G.E.R. He loved being a member of the Antlered Guard; and was a Major General. His favorite past time was fishing with Ms. Laura Brown.
On September 11, 1979 he married Veta Collier and from their thirty-five year union they had two loving children. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Veta, son, Katrell Jackson, daughter, Yashmine Boston (James Banks) and grandsons Kameron Taylor and James Banks, Jr., granddaughters, Dejah, Imiah and Sahara Banks; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Harold is also survived by his brother, Jack Jackson, sisters, Helena Burrell, Karylous Jackson, Myrtle Jackson (Justo Martin) and Judy Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold R. Jackson, Sr., mother Myrtle (Dameron) Jackson, brothers Finnis and Ronnie Jackson and sister, Patricia Anderson.
A service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
