Holger Augustus Christensen
Holger Augustus "Hoag" Christensen died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Lakeside Creighton Hospital in Omaha, NE. His family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Dunn's Funeral Home (2121 Grand Ave. Des Moines, IA). A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Hoag was born in 1930 in Iowa City, IA. He graduated from Iowa City High in 1948, and went on to attend the University of Iowa. He was very proud to have played Hawkeye football and graduated in 1954 as a Pharmacist. He worked for a drug store in Washington, Iowa for several years before moving to Newton, IA in 1962. There he purchased Murdy Drug, and called Corner Pharmacy his own until about 1974. He took a job on the Board Of Pharmacy with the State of Iowa, and was a Pharmacy Examiner until retirement. Hoag had a Pharmacy license in the state of Iowa continuously for 50 years.
Hoag married Janet Brant of Oelwein, IA, who also attended the University of Iowa in February 1954, they spent 25 years raising 4 children together and later divorced. He is survived by his Children and Grandchildren: Julie Christensen with husband John Diehl and their son Magnus of Nashville, TN; John and Cindy Christensen and their son Nate of Maple Park, IL; David and Susie Christensen of Omaha, NE; James Christensen and sons Brant and Zachary, with step daughter Amy from Waukee, IA.
