Howard McCarty age 89, of Perry died on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Dallas County Hospital in Perry. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 25, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorials may be given to St. Pat's Foundation or HCI Care Services and may be left at the Funeral Home. Howard Thomas McCarty was born on October 16, 1924 at Perry, IA to William O. and Agnes (Haberer) McCarty. He graduated from Perry Community High School in 1943. Following graduation he served his country in the United States Army. On January 29, 1948 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lorraine Georgia Honomichl and they farmed together outside of Perry. Before farming Howard worked at Douglas Grain Brokerage and E.H. Felton Grain Company in Boone, IA. While farming he was a Pioneer Seed salesman from 1960 to 1984 and retired from farming in 1986.

Howard was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Perry Elks Lodge, the Perry Rotary Club and the American Legion. He loved to watch football and care for his little dog Susie. Most important to him, was the time he spent with his family.

Howard was preceded in death by wife, Lorraine Georgia McCarty, son-in-law, Howard Wright, a brother, William C. McCarty and 2 sisters, Kathryn Eckley and Irene Ferk.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Larwick (Ken) Ames, IA and Karen M. Wright, Minburn, IA, grandchildren, Bret (Amy) Larwick of Ames, IA, Mark (Charmaine) Larwick of Ankeny, IA, and great grandchildren, Ian and Evan Larwick of Ames, IA, Lydia and Caleb Larwick of Ankeny, IA, a sister-in-law, Elsie Johnson of Southbury, CT and several nieces and nephews.
