Hubert Crandell, 91, of Ames, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Green Hills Health Center in Ames.

Hubert was born January 8, 1921, to Orville and Bertha (Minnick) Crandell. He graduated from Dana High School in 1938, and was united in marriage to Marie Seymour on June 30, 1946, in Fraser, Iowa. Hubert served in the United States Army for almost four years during WWII. After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for the Greene County Auditor's Office, becoming county auditor. Hubert then moved to Fraser. He worked in the Citizen's National Bank in Boone for approximately 27 years before retiring.

Hubert was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Boone and the Elks Club along with being a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone. He enjoyed coin collecting and following his grandchildren in their sporting activities.

Hubert is survived by his wife, Marie of Ames; his children: David (Jolene) of Morton, IL, Steven (Cheryl) of Ames and Blaine (Diane) of Garfield, Arkansas; his three grandchildren: Richard (Judy) Crandell of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Courtney and Tyler Crandell of Ames; his brother, Ivan (Joan) Crandell of Grand Junction; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Denton and Donald; along with his sister, Lois Crandell Tabor.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, west of Des Moines near Van Meter.
