The Guest Book is expired.
Jack A. Harris died on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Hospice of Central Iowa's Kavanagh House on 56th Street.
Jack was born September 9, 1925 to Leflore and Mabel Harris in East St. Louis, Illinois. After appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy, he served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. Following the war he graduated from the USMMA in Kings Point, NY and completed his studies at the University of Illinois where he was a member of the Kappa Kappa chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Jack had a long career in marketing and advertising, including time at Ray-Eye Productions, Needham, Harper, and Steers, and Massey Ferguson before opening a marketing and communications small business with his wife, Joyce.
Jack will be remembered for his great kindness, and as a master fisherman who grew the best tomatoes, had infinite patience for lining up the perfect shot - whether on the golf course or behind his camera, loved dogs and a well-crafted mystery book, and had a passion for being on the water, especially the sea.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce; children, Debbie McKendree, Julia Harris, and Michael Harris; grandsons, Dustin and Derek McKendree; and great-grandson, Dakotah McKendree. He was preceded in death by his infant son, John, and his parents.
A private family service was held and Jack's cremated remains will be scattered in the Pacific. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kavanagh House or The Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed at www.brooksfuneralcare.com.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Kavanagh House, and most of all, dear family friend Gladys Hertzberg for years of compassion and support.
