James Sanger was born June 11, 1927 and died peacefully April 3, 2014.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 9th at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.). A visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the same morning, also at the funeral home.
He was born to Bruno Borghi and Rose Medici. He was primarily raised by his adoptive father Matt Sanger, following the passing of his mother at an early age.
James was a Navy Veteran of WW II, and was a member of the Polk City American Legion, Boline-Manfredi VFW Post 9662, Vittoria Lodge, and AM Vets.
Jim retired from John Deere, giving him time to enjoy bowling and dancing. He was a real modern day Daniel Boone with his love of hunting, fishing, and growing an extra large garden from which he produced many jars of tomato sauce and other canning products. Like a true faithful Italian, he enjoyed pasta every Sunday. You felt honored if he chose to share his secrets or knowledge in the kitchen.
James is survived by his sons, Jim (Darla), and Randy Allison); 3 grandsons, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Guido Sanger of Ankeny and Danny Borghi of Des Moines, 2 sisters, Mary Ann Bellville of Ankeny, and Diana McGriff of Des Moines; and his devoted and loving companion Phyllis Keicher.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary.
