James T. Mills

West Des Moines

James T. Mills, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home in West Des Moines on February 19, 2014 from natural causes. Jim was born in Des Moines to George M. and Patricia J. Mills. He was raised in West Des Moines, graduating from Valley High School in 1972. After attending the University of Iowa, Jim worked in a number of capacities in the family's construction related businesses.

Always patriotic, Jim was proud to be an American and loved his country. He had been a member of the West Des Moines Volunteer Fire Department, and the West Des Moines Reserve Police Association. Jim was an avid Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed Nascar. But his devotion was to his dogs. Over the years Jim and Cathy have bred and raised a number of champion show dogs.

Jim is survived by his wife Cathy (Cabbage); brothers, Robert (Cheryl), of Johnston, and Tim, of Des Moines; brother-in-law Kyl Cabbage (Shari),of West Des Moines; Mother-in-law Marilyn Cabbage, of West Des Moines; and several aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Patricia Mills, of West Des Moines, and his eldest brother, William B. (Ben).

The family will greet friends at Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Avenue on Monday, February 24 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
