Jeff Kubat, 29, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his home in Saint Paul, MN. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 8301 Aurora Avenue in Urbandale, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at the church. An additional visitation will be held there one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Jeff was born on December 19, 1984, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rod and Sue Kubat. He was a graduate of Dowling Catholic High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa. Jeff swam for the Des Moines Swimming Federation ("DMSF") for ten years and was a leading swimmer for Dowling Catholic's four state championship teams. He continued his swimming career at the University of Iowa. Jeff passed on his love of the sport as an assistant coach for DMSF. At the time of his death, Jeff was employed as an Account Manager with Ecolabs in St. Paul.
His daughter, Nora, was the love of his life and brought him boundless joy. Jeff was a joyous, loving and caring person whose big heart, gentle spirit and warm smile touched many lives. Jeff will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Nora Mary Konetzny of Maynard, MA; parents, Rod and Sue Kubat of West Des Moines; five siblings, Eric (Jessica Kassis) Kubat of San Francisco, CA, Jenna (Ryan Johnson) Kubat of West Des Moines, Kevin (Alison) Kubat of Saint Paul, MN, Katelyn Kubat of Minneapolis, MN; Colby Kubat of Northfield, MN; maternal grandmother, Marguerite Tomamichel of West Des Moines; and several aunts and uncles and many cousins. Jeff was preceded into eternal life by his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either: The Nora Konetzny Scholarship Fund for Nora's education, or the Dowling Foundation.
