"Art" was born April 18, 1932 to Joseph and Mary (Colbert) Longo of Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1950 and attended Grand View College. He married Jean Ellen McPherson in 1952 and together they raised seven children. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and worked in management at Firestone for 33 years. Art's favorite pastimes were coaching basketball, church activities and enjoying all types of music. He looked forward to family trips to Clear Lake, Omaha, and Chattanooga. After retirement he and Jean traveled on numerous bus trips across the midwest. He had a dry sense of humor and was quick to share his one-liners. Art was proud of his world famous homemade rigatoni and meatballs, but was most content soaking up the sun on his front porch.

Art is survived by his children, Diane Longo of West Des Moines, Joe (Joy) Longo Jr. of Mexico, Theresa (Bob) Brichetto of Johnston, IA, Jim (LuAnne) Longo of Ankeny, IA, Mary Clark of Des Moines, IA Trish (Shawn) Osburnsen of Windsor Heights, IA, and John Longo of Johnston, IA; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, and sister, Patricia Maher.

The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

To honor his memory please make contributions to The Basilica of St. John or Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Online condolences may be left at caldwellraddatz.com.
