Kenneth Bottorff, age 93, a long time Ellsworth and Jewell resident passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2013 at Crestview Manor in Webster City.
Kenneth Lyle Bottorff was born March 16, 1920 in Blairsburg to Ervin J. and Ethel (Hurst) Bottorff. He grew up in the Blairsburg area, graduating from Blairsburg High School and attended Webster City Junior College. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On July 9, 1945 Kenneth married Kathryn Agnes Burcham in Alameda, California. Following the war, they farmed in the Webster City area, moving to the farm they bought north of Ellsworth in 1960. They moved to a new home in Jewell in 1994.
Kenneth was a member of the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, the Ellsworth American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge of Jewell and later Story City Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with friends. Kenneth and Kathryn volunteered for hospice, both for HOMEWARD Hospice in Ames and Hamilton County Hospice in Webster City.
Kenneth is survived by his sons, Keith (Nan) Bottorff of Leawood, Kansas, Kevin (Linda) Bottorff of Ellsworth, and Kyle (Peggy) Bottorff of Newark, Delaware; grandchildren, Danielle, Kieler, Juliet, Cara, and Cole. Kenneth is also remembered by the Bottorff's foreign exchange student, Ulf Dammann (Carolin) of Berlin, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn in 2006; and his sisters, Arloie Samuelson and Adria Monroe.
Memorial services at the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, visitation at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell, and burial of his cremated remains at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Ellsworth United Methodist Church or HOMEWARD Hospice in Ames or Hamilton County Hospice in Webster City.
