Larry L. "Pops" Payton, 72, passed away November 15, 2013.

Larry was born September 26, 1941 in Des Moines to Madeline and Lorenzo "Bud" Payton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years. Larry worked at Northwestern Bell from 1965 until 1990. He was a member of Union Park Grace Fellowship Church, Capitol City Moose Lodge and Vice President of the Fairground Neighborhood Association. Larry enjoyed racing, photography, reading and was a history buff. His family was very important to him and he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his children, Lisa (Tom) Davis, Lonnie (Tina) Payton and Luke (Courtney) Payton; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Lance.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial with military honors will take place at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
