Leo "Gene" Rauch

Leo Eugene Rauch, 79, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel followed by burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (near Van Meter) in Adel, Iowa.

Leo was born on June 28, 1933, in Corning, Iowa to Leo and Lois (Boyer) Rauch. He graduated from Corning High School, attended Iowa State University and received his accounting degree from AIB. Leo proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. There he met and married Kazue Akinaga on March 27, 1957 at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. After returning to the states they made their home in Des Moines in 1958. Leo was a loyal, dedicated, hard working company man. He retired from Helena Chemical Company in 2003 after 44 years of employment. He was a member of the USAF 28th Bomber Wing Association, Inc.

Leo will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Kazue Rauch of Des Moines; son, Gene (Lori) Rauch; grandson, Nick Rauch and granddaughter, Katherine "KJ" Rauch, all of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Leo "Shorty" Louis Rauch.
