Mary Louise Tweedt, 94, of Ames, formerly of Madrid, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Hillsdale Cemetery, east of Madrid.

Mary was born on March 16, 1920, in Toledo, Ohio to Harry B. and Florence (Johnson) Berkley. She moved with her parents to Des Moines and then to Madrid, where she lived most of her life. Mary graduated from Madrid High School in 1937, with a Normal Training Certificate and taught country school for a short time. On July 9, 1942, Mary was united in marriage to Everett B. Tweedt in Bethany, MO. She attended Burroughs Calculator School in Des Moines and then worked in the payroll office at the Ordnance Plant near Ankeny during WWII. Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes. She and Everett loved dancing at the Lake Robbins Ballroom and gathering their family together for holidays and special occasions. Most of all, Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. In her later years, Mary was a resident of The Rose of Ames Assisted Living Community, which became her "second family." She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Madrid and the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5060.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Connie (Larry) Anderson of Carbondale, IL, Deanna (Glen) Dahlkoetter of Omaha, NE and Tamara (Dave) Blakeley of Ames, IA; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, M.L. Tweedt of Council Bluffs, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; and sister, June Seewald.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 21, at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Memorial contributions may be made to Israel Family Hospice House, The Rose of Ames, or the .
