Merle Duane Bond

M. "Duane" Bond, 80, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. In agreement with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services held. A private burial of the urn will take place at Masonic Cemetery, in Des Moines.

Duane was born on March 20, 1933 in Winterset, Iowa. He lived in Dallas and Madison Counties for many years prior to moving to Des Moines. Duane was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he was a mechanic for a time and then an over the road truck driver. Duane loved working with wood, making many clocks and miscellaneous items.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Bond; son, Kent Metcalf; daughter, Lynette Leonard; two granddaughters, Jamie (Dominic) Leon and Jennifer (Matt) Olson; one great-grandson, Austin Olson; and one great-granddaughter, Lillee Olson. Duane also is survived by three children by a previous marriage, Pat, Mike and Michelle.
