Nancy Jensen, 84, died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from complications following a cerebral hemorrhage. In agreement with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 1020 - 24th Street in West Des Moines. Entombment will follow at St. Timothy's Columbarium. The family will greet friends at a lunch reception following the services at the church.
Nancy was born on May 27, 1929 to Walter W. and Ruth (Slater) Wilson. She was a 1947 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines; and in 1951, graduated from the University Of Iowa in Iowa City, earning a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Nancy was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Phi Beta Kappa, and Mortar Board. She taught education with the Des Moines Public Schools until 1956, when Nancy married Dick Jensen. They lived in Audubon, Atlantic, and Spencer, IA before returning to Des Moines in 1972. Nancy was involved with numerous activities with her children. She was a PEO, served on the Business Women's Association Foundation, and a Director and past President of Youth Homes of Mid-America. Nancy was an avid tennis player and loved spending time with her family. Some of her fondest memories are those spent with family and friends at her Lake Okoboji home.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 58 years, Dick of West Des Moines; son, Charley (Nancy) Jensen of Leawood, KS; sister, Jean (Sam) Adler of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Walter "Wally" S. (Janet) Wilson of Des Moines; and grandsons, Tom and Ben Jensen both of Leawood. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Sarah Jensen.
The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made in Nancy Jensen's name to either: Youth Homes of Mid-America, PO Box 39, Johnston, IA 50131; or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.
The family appreciates the care provided by Drs. Baorini, Enriquez, Holm and Nordstrom and nurses and staff of IMMC and Hospice.
