Oliver "Muggs" Palmer, 73, passed away July 12, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at the Ames American Legion.

Muggs was born July 7, 1941 to Dick and Mary (Van Cannon) Palmer in Bagley, Minnesota. He graduated from Boone High School and had lived in Boone for 32 years, Russellville, Arkansas for 10 years and in Ames for 31 years. Muggs wintered in Harlingen, Texas for 11 years. He worked as a maintenance worker in road construction for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 20-plus years. He was a member of the Ames and Harlingen Elks Lodge, Ames Moose Lodge, Ames American Legion Post #37, Hunt and Fish Club of Boone, ABATE of Iowa District 25 in Boone and the Iowa Sportsman's Club in Boone.

Muggs is survived by his son, Troy (Sherry Persinger) Palmer; his grandson, John Palmer; his great-grandson, Cameron; his brothers, Dale Palmer and Paul Palmer; his sister, Joyce (Tom) Holmes; his companion, Jan Hansen; his former wife, Dixie Magden; and several nieces and nephews.

Muggs was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Betty Hodgson, Rose Mary Tedrow and two sets of twins; and his granddaughter, Rhiannon Marie.

Burial and his last motorcycle ride will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences and photos may be shared at
