Orie Henry Ault
Orie Henry Ault, age 94, of Bondurant, died July 25, 2014, at the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Care Facility. Orie was born February 25, 1920, in Elkhart, Iowa, one of six children of Harvey and Eva (Blackerby) Ault. He graduated from Bondurant High School in 1939. He worked for area farmers before serving in the 807th Tank Destroyer's Battalion during World War II. He served in the European Theater and was part of the force that went in on Utah beach after D-Day. On November 9, 1945, he married Neva Helen Rooker (better known as Helen). The couple lived in Des Moines and later moved to Bondurant. Orie worked for the Iowa Highway Commission (now known as the IDOT) for almost 40 years. He enjoyed making things out of wood, the Rolling Agers, The American Legion Post #396, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. Orie was a life member of the Bondurant American Legion Post #396 and an original member of the Senior Citizens Rolling Agers Seniors Group. Orie also served as a Post Commander and was a PUFL (Paid Up For Life) member of the Bondurant Legion Post. Orie served on the Bondurant City Council and the Bondurant Fire Department.
Survivors include daughter Marlene Valentine and husband Jim; son Gary and wife Debbie all of Bondurant; granddaughters Darla Davidson and husband Scott, Krista Balog and husband Dave, Kimberly Peters and husband Jay; grandson Scott Valentine and wife Brianna; six great-grandchildren Ryan and Trevor Davidson, Tanner and Kylie Valentine, Lincoln and Lauren Peters, sixteen nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Roma Ault, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Helen in April 2006, his parents Harvey and Eva Ault, and his two sisters Violet Smith, Erma Sannon, and brothers Walter, Louis, and Ray.
Visitation will be from for one hour prior to the services at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Altoona with the funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for a special project at the American Legion Post #396.
