Patrick S. Broderick
Patrick S. Broderick Jr., 76, entered eternal life September 2, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by his family.
Born December 8, 1936, in Decorah to Grace Marie Jennisch and Patrick Broderick Sr., Pat moved to Des Moines at age five. He was proud of his east-side heritage, his family, and his life-long friendships. He graduated from Dowling in 1954. On May 17, 1958, he married Janet Bormann of Emmetsburg. After 34 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Pat retired as Director of Finance. Following retirement, he worked as a contractor. He served in the U.S. Navy and was also a Navy Seabee.
Pat enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating, and playing cards and trading jokes and stories. He was a member of the Capital City IA Moose Lodge 2589, National Association of Federal Employees, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, Amvets Post 0002, and VFW Post 9127.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; daughters, Anne Conner (Dan) and Cathy Medina (Rick); and four grandchildren, Logan, Wade and Ellen Conner and Dylan Medina. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Grace Ann and grandson, Addam Medina.
Visitation is Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding following a 7 p.m. Vigil Service. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd. Burial is 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 9 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.
