Paul Joseph Kollasch

Paul Joseph Kollasch, 90, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on November 12, 2012. Paul was born in Whittemore, Iowa, to Charles E. and Edna A. Fishel Kollasch. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Mildred Ternes, Roy, Leona (Sr. Mary Denise), Orville, Fr. Victor, and Charles. He is a WWII veteran who served as an Army paratrooper. After healing from an injury, the Army sent him to California to train other paratroopers. After the war, Paul graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, and then attended Ohio State University where he worked on a Masters of Education in Industrial Arts. He married Ann C. Foley in 1951 in Columbus, Ohio. They moved to Phoenix in 1952. He is survived by his wife and six children: Sheila, Thomas, Gregory, Victor, Martin (Marianne Sasso), Mary (Bill) Zongas; four grandchildren: Mark and Kelly Kollasch (mother Ellen Myer), Ann and David Beaubien (mother Kay LeClair (Randall) Beaubien); as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul worked for IBM as their first Arizona field engineer, driving thousands of miles on old Arizona roads in the 1950s and 1960s, before partnering with two other men to found Business Products Services in the 1970s. Paul was able to name every mountain range in the state just by its profile from any angle along the roads he traveled. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, SS. Simon and Jude Chapter, and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church 4715 N Central Avenue, Phoenix, on Friday, November 30 at 2 pm. An outdoor reception will follow immediately after Mass. Cremains will be inurned at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th Street, Phoenix, at a later date attended by immediate family members.
