Richard "Dick" Schultz
Richard Burton Schultz, 80, of 328 South Boone Street in Boone, died suddenly at his home on Sunday morning, March 17, 2013.
He was born on April 26, 1932, the son of Walter and Nadine (Nay) Schultz and reared in Boone.
Dick graduated from Boone High School and was a member of the 1946 State Championship golf team. In 1954, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he also played on the University golf team.
He served in the US Army, subsequently returning to Boone to assist in the family business, Schultz Lab. Shortly thereafter, he married Mary Ver Hoef. They later divorced. On September 16, 1973, he married Joan Holm Johnson and became stepfather to Sharon, Jamie and Richard.
Besides his family, his greatest love was golf, although he was a dedicated runner, swimmer and weight lifter. He and his wife are supporting members of the Des Moines Metro Opera.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; children, Sharon Hollinrake and husband, Mark of Solon, Iowa, Jamie Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Richard Johnson and wife, Lisa of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and an aunt, Geneva Nay of Boone.
His body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, March 20 at 2 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Boone with Father Tom Gehlsen officiating.
Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Boone County Y, Boone Municipal Pool or the Grace Episcopal Church in Dick's name.
