Robert Crum passed May 26, 2013 at Grace Living Center, Clinton, OK at age 89. Born to George Crum (Mount Carmel, IL) and Minnie Bishop Crum (Avard, OK) on October 25, 1923 in Mount Carmel, IL. He served in the World War II Philippine Liberation and was awarded three bronze stars. After his return he decided to go into ministry. He received a BA from Providence Bible Institute, a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Hartford Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity in Systemic Theology from Boston University. He pastored various Methodist churches in Connecticut and Iowa, taught Theology at Ambrose College in Davenport, was Associate Director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of Iowa and directed Hawthorn Hill, a United Methodist ministry in the heart of Des Moines.
After moving with his wife to Weatherford, OK, he volunteered with the Cheyenne Indian United Methodist Mission Church in Clinton, OK. He had a deep love of people and espoused justice and mercy for all. He was a much loved husband, father and friend.
Bob is survived by his wife Linda Hertzler-Crum of Weatherford, OK; three daughters of Bob and Val Johnson Crum - Michelle Smith of Ponte Vedra, FL; Robin Potter of Wheatland, IA; and Heather Naylor of Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Bill Crum, and one sister Esther Smith, both of IL; two step-children Jennifer Bukralia of Green Bay, WI and Michael McKinney of Shattuck, OK; eleven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service in Des Moines will be July 6, at 11, at Grace United Methodist Church, 37th & Cottage Grove.
