Robert "Bob" G. Johnson, 85, passed from this life on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Walnut Ridge Senior Community in Clive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 1, at Lutheran Church of Hope, located at 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy in West Des Moines. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church. Committal services will take place at 2:15 p.m., on Friday, August 1, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell, Iowa.
Robert was born on May 3, 1929 in Jewell, Iowa, to Fred and Effie (House) Johnson. He was a graduate of Jewell High School. Bob was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. On September 5, 1948, Bob was united in marriage to Lucille Evelyn Bailey in Jewell. For 26 years, he was employed as a Claims Supervisor with Allied Insurance, until his retirement in May of 1991. Bob and Lucille had resided in Jewell, Ames, Urbandale, Sun Valley Lake and Waukee. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope. First and foremost, Bob loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed golfing, wintering in Arizona, snow skiing in Colorado, and water skiing at their lake home in Sun Valley Lake. Bob was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle; he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Lucille "Lucy" Johnson of Waukee; two daughters, Patricia Ann "Patty" (George) Waddell of Dubuque, IA and Janet Sue (R. Kim) Dreher of Urbandale, IA; brother, Lester (Emma Belle) Johnson of Jewell; one sister, Frances Kirkpatrick of Fort Worth, TX; one sister-in-law, Eva Olson of Madison, WI; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Freda Teig and Esther Hassebrock; four brothers-in-laws, Everett Teig, Cloyd Kirkpatrick, Don Hassebrock and William Olson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford and Esther Bailey; two nephews, David Johnson and Denny Teig; and one great-granddaughter, Bailey Cota.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to their Mercy Hospice nurse and all the staff at Walnut Ridge for all the care, love and support Bob received throughout his illness.
