Services for Roger Alan Wood, 79, who passed away, Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Indianola, will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, June 27 at The Indianola Regular Baptist Church. Interment to follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA at 2 p.m. One hour prior to service there will be time for gathering and fellowship.
Roger was born in Des Moines, IA on November 24, 1933. After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy where he served from 1952-1956. He then enrolled at the University of Iowa graduating as an Electrical Engineer. In 1972 he moved to Indianola, IA where he became the Service Director at IMU for 21 years until he retired. Roger was a huge Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; children, Craig (Janet) Wood, Michael (Jamie) Wood, Catherine Johnson, Cynthia (Ed) Morrison.; step-mother, Roemell Wood; brothers, Mark and Jay Wood; sister Judith Sommer; half-sister Madonna Bortle; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 26 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to Indianola Regular Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com.
