Ronald L. McCarty

Ronald McCarty, 83, was born November 16, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Levern and Clara McCarty. He passed away March 18, 2014, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Ronald attended Grandview College where he played basketball. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 9662. Ronald enjoyed model trains and fishing, but his greatest passion was golfing. He was also a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ronald is survived by his son, Kelly (Julie) McCarty of Clive; daughter, Kathy McCarty (Georg Silva) of Plymouth, MA; and his grandchildren, Callen and Corey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay McCarty.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
