Royden (Roy) E. Olson
Royden (Roy) Elmer Olson, P.E., 85, passed away Sunday, August 18 in Des Moines, IA, with his loving wife, Virginia, at his side.
Roy was born in Leland, IA on August 17, 1928. After graduating from Leland High, he went on to Iowa State University where he graduated in mechanical/electrical engineering in June of 1949. He was in the honor fraternity Pi Tau Sigma, a member of the technical society A.S.M.E., and a U.S. Army veteran. Roy and Virginia are members of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Roy's working life included a distinguished career at Weitz as a mechanical/electrical engineer. His passions were hunting, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, maintaining his Beaverdale-brick home and spending time with family.
Roy is survived by his wife Virginia June Olson; children, Mike Howard (AK); Kate Olson-Rutten (CO); Barbara Howard, (NE); Jaci Bodensteiner (IA); and his sister, Mavis Rognes (IA). Roy was a proud grandpa and great grandpa. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Pearl.
The funeral is at Dunn's on Friday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time with burial to follow in the Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heifer International or the Norwegian Immigration Assoc., Inc.
