St. Paul, MN
Long-time Iowa pastor, Rev. Russell L. Fate, passed away peacefully at the St. Anthony Park Home in St. Paul, MN on May 5, with family present. He was 88 and had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past two years. Rev. Fate was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Whitcomb and Mary Fate, and by one brother, George. He is survived by his younger brother, Douglas, by his wife of 65 years, Delores Fate, by four sons, Robin, Paul, Kendall, and Tom, and by ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Born in Clay Center, NE, Fate grew up on a farm during the dust bowl and the Great Depression. After graduating from Doane College and serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended divinity school at the University of Chicago and became a United Church of Christ minister. He served two U.C.C. parishes in IA: Ames (1960 to 66) and Maquoketa (1970 to 1990).
All friends are invited to a memorial service for Rev. Fate at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City IA.
