SaraManda "Sally" Ferry, 95, of Des Moines, IA, died April 6, 2013, at Calvin Manor in Des Moines.

Sally was born February 21, 1918, the youngest of three daughters, to Rev. Clifton Harley Hiller and Bessie Mae Doten Hiller. She graduated from Newton High School and received a bachelor's degree in vocal music and education from Cornell College in 1939. She did graduate work at the University of Minnesota and Drake University and completed the Christiansen Choral School master's course for choral directors. Sally taught vocal music in Guthrie Center, IA, where she met her future husband, Theodore Carl Ferry. After marrying, the couple lived in Des Moines. Sally worked as an inspector at Solar Airplane Factory during World War II then returned to teaching until her retirement in 1980. Ted was an accountant at Look magazine. The couple had one daughter, Linda Sue. Ted died in 1963.

Sally belonged to Westminster United Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir for many years. She also sang in several Des Moines choral groups. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association of the United States and a member of the American Association of University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma. Throughout her life, Sally enjoyed the company of her wide circle of friends. She corresponded faithfully with her sisters, Louise Beth Allen of CA and Carolyn Mae Harris of AL and GA, and kept in close touch with her cousin Rae Ruth Malin of MN. All three preceded her in death.

Sally is survived by her daughter, of Iowa City, IA; four nieces in CA and GA; and two nephews in MA and MO. For an expanded obituary, visit Iles Westover Funeral Home web site (ilescares.com).
