Stanley Schrock, 84, of Kalona, Iowa died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa following a brief illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church in Tobin Hall with Father Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A general memorial has been established. Stan was born July 22, 1929 north and west of Kalona in Johnson County, son of Alma (Hochstetler) and Elmer Schrock. He attended Kalona High School. He then served four years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Stan was a decorated war veteran. On June 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to Abigail Perez at St. James Catholic Church, Washington, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa in Business Administration, he took a position at the USDA as an auditor for the OIG.
He was a great sports fan especially of Iowa football and basketball, going to many "Bowl Games," always making sure his golf clubs went along. He followed the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He bowled for many years. He was a fisherman, a lifelong golfer, and a coach or assistant at all of his children's sports activities. He was also involved in Boy Scouts with his boys. He had been a longtime member of the Kalona Golf Course and is a member of the I Club.
Stan is survived by his wife, Abigail, their three children: Stacey of Des Moines, Iowa; Sean of Des Moines, Iowa; Stanlee of Altoona, Iowa; granddaughter Stephannie, at home; grandson Zackary, who is in the Navy stationed at Norfolk, Virginia; sisters: Jean Schrock of Kalona, Iowa, Doris Thirtle of Kalona, Iowa, and Shirley (Michael) Michelozzi of Plainwell, Michigan; brother Don of Muscatine, Iowa; sisters-in-law Nancy Perez Anguiano and Josephine A. Perez of Hammond, Indiana; as well as many, many beautiful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Elmer Schrock, his brothers and their wives, Robert and Ruby Schrock, Dwane and Tiny Schrock, brothers-in-law Joseph Adolph Perez, Frank Anguiano, Eric Thirtle, and sister-in-law Raquel Perez Gray and husband Richard, and niece Gail Perez Burns.
