Susan Kay Heiland, 71, daughter of Hugh &Merna (Searles) Teale, Jr., was born March 1, 1942 in Panora, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center - West Lakes in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Susan graduated from Panora High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Drake University in 1964. She taught school for a year in Milwaukee and a year in Indianola. In 1965, she married John Heiland in Panora, Iowa and to this union five children were born. Susan and John made their home in Des Moines for 5 years before moving to Adel in 1970. Susan was a 6th grade science teacher for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District for 21 years, retiring in 2006.

Susan enjoyed going to antique sales, boating, camping, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Adel United Methodist Church, P.E.O, the bridge club, and was a founding chapter member of the Northwest Missouri State University Phi Mu Sorority.

Susan is survived by a loving family, which includes her husband, John of Adel; daughters, Leza (Charles) Woods of South Carolina; Mari (Jason) Wolf of Urbandale, IA; Kayla (Robert) Parker of Tulsa, OK; sons, Ryan Heiland of Maryville, MO; and Cody (Jewelyn) Heiland of Leavenworth, KS; nine grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Sandi) Teale of Panora; and John (Kris) Teale,of Maryville, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 5-8 P.M. with family present at the Adel United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Adel United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 2:30 P.M., Monday, at the Brethren Cemetery in Panora.

Memorials to be donated at the discretion of the family.
