Born May 14, 1931 and went to be with the Lord July 17, 2014.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Iles Funeral Homes Grandview Park Chapel with burial to follow in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Verne was born in Ames, IA and eventually moved to Inglewood, CA. He joined the army at age 17 and was a Korean War veteran. His time in the service was an important part of his life. After Verne's military service he entered the trucking industry in various management roles and worked until his mid 70's.

After the service, Verne moved to Ames, IA where he met his wife Mary to whom he was married for 58 years this past May. Verne was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Des Moines.

Verne is survived by his wife Mary, Sons, Carroll (Kathy) Cake, Roger Cake, Daughters Deb (John) Vincent and Pat (Rick) Stowers, Grandchildren Megan Stowers, Audra (James) Brandt, Veronica Cake, Matthew Harker and Danielle Fortin, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m Monday evening July 21, 2014 at Grandview Park Funeral Home.
