Wayne Marvin Dallenbach
Wayne Marvin Dallenbach, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Des Moines at Kavanagh House. A celebration of his life will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25 at Iles Westover Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (near Van Meter) in Adel, IA.
Wayne was born to Cecil and Linda Dallenbach on December 8, 1926 in Fayette County, Iowa. He graduated from Sumner High School and entered military service in the U.S. Navy in 1944. His World War II service was spent in the Admiralty Islands. On November 5, 1952 he married Neva Keeley and they had one son, Steven.
Wayne began his career at Thermogas Company in 1954 and retired in 1986. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Wayne was also a member of the Des Moines Transportation Club, Highland Park Businessmen, American Legion, VFW and Des Moines Homebuilder's Assn.
In retirement, he volunteered at the Blood Center and the American Legion. He was an avid volunteer at his polling center for each election. Wayne also loved fishing, politics and telling stories of his military service.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Neva Dallenbach; parents, Cecil and Linda Dallenbach; brother, Bob Dallenbach. He is survived by his son, Steven (Bry) Dallenbach of West Des Moines; granddaughter, Amanda (Darren) Wood of West Des Moines; and great-granddaughters, Sydney and Finley Wood. Survivors also include his sister, Mary Ellen Trelour of Waterloo.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Iles Westover Chapel on Monday, February 24. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Kavanagh House on 56th for their care of Wayne. Online condolences are welcomed at www.IlesCares.com.
