William S. (Bill) Davis passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand, from 5 to 7 on Wednesday, May 1. He will be buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Cumming, IA.
William Davis was born September 10, 1927, in Mystic, IA, to James E. Davis and Emma Knight Davis. He graduated from Mystic High School and Simpson College. He served in the United States Navy. He was married to Clare Francis Irwin on July 8, 1950, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Bill was a devoted husband, a dedicated father and a loving grandfather. He was a lifelong employee of Iowa Power and Light now known as Mid American Energy. He retired as Vice President of Marketing. He was a Little League coach, Cub Scout leader and President of the Oskaloosa YMCA. He enjoyed golf and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Clare and three children, Sue (John) Heslinga of Clive, IA, James (Laurie) of Charles City, IA and William of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ila Bubniak and Rosalie Rampellburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy.
Memorials can be given to St. Augustine's Catholic Church.
