South Jordan-Bert Ostlund died peacefully at home on July 26, 2014. He was born in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, on September 15, 1928 to Einer Emanuel and Nettie Ivie Ostlund. He enjoyed his childhood experiences in the Cascade Mountains. At age sixteen he began working in the shipyards during World War II. He attended Arizona State University, then transferred to Brigham Young University where he earned his B.A. in History and Economics. Bert married Marilyn Hearne in 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had seven children: Linda (Eric) Barton; Mark (Dorothy); Brent, deceased (Donna); Jamie; Parris; Craig; and, Matthew (Paige). They were later divorced. Bert married Margaret Fisher on December 28, 1984 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was welcomed into the family by Margaret's three children: Steve (Donna) Best; Susan (Andy) Baggs; and , Kaye Lynn (Barry) Wootton. His many grandchildren and great-grandchildren treasured the time they spent with him. He enjoyed sharing his woodworking hobby and skills with them. He also enjoyed camping and boating with family. In addition, he loved the many trips he took with Margaret, a highlight being their trip to China. Bert taught history in Nebo District, a subject he enjoyed throughout his life. He subsequently worked for U.S. Steel in Cedar City, San Francisco and Salt Lake City. He later worked for the Geneva Steel Plant in Orem. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was always the center of his life. He served as a bishop, a member of several high councils, and found joy in the many callings he had as a Gospel Doctrine teacher. He also loved his service as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos and Jordan River temples. Bert will be greatly missed by family and friends.
