Bryan August Espenschied Obituary
Bryan August (Bry) Espenschied-husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather-passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, of natural causes incident to age (93).
Bryan, the fifth of seven children, was born in Salt Lake City on November 5, 1919, to August and Anna Helene Gronau Espenschied. Bryan served as a Missionary in the Eastern Canada Mission and proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy.
He and his eternal sweetheart, LaNore Marion Dorton, were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 5, 1947. Bryan and LaNore shared an exceptional relationship; each contributed their individual talents to the partnership.
Bryan's successful career as a salesman and business executive-Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Milne Truck Lines-was always subordinate to Church and family.
A friend of the Prophets, Bryan served his Savior with all his heart, might, mind, and strength. He served as the Bishop of the Centerville 5th Ward, President of the Western Canadian Mission, Assistant to the Presidents of the Salt Lake and Frankfurt Germany Temples, Recorder of the Atlanta Georgia Temple, Temple Sealer (1977-2012), and in many other capacities. He and LaNore opened the Africa West Mission in 1980, and obtained political recognition for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nigeria and Ghana.
Bryan was survived by his wife of 65 years and is survived by their children, Kaye Espenschied (Dale) Smith, Bryan James (DaNielle) Espenschied, Nola Espenschied (J. Richard) Stark, and Mark Dorton (Susan) Espenschied. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. His parents, six sisters, and twin sons (Spencer August and David Lee Espenschied) preceded him in death.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, April 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary (260 E. South Temple Street, Salt Lake City, Utah) and preceding the funeral from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 5, at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center (270 North 300 East, Centerville, Utah) at 11 a.m. Interment at the Centerville Cemetery (650 East 400 South, Centerville, Utah) will immediately follow the funeral.
