D.A. South Obituary
1920 ~ 2013
On January 24, 2013 D.A. passed away at his residence in Salt Lake City at the age of 93.
He was born Feb 3, 1920 in Malad City, Idaho, to Grover Lee South of Sutherland, NC and Ora Elizabeth Martin of Brushy Fork, NC. During the depression the family moved to Logan, Utah in 1928. He graduated from Logan High school in 1938. He worked during the summer as a "Gandy Dancer" for the Southern Pacific Railroad and earned enough to enroll at U.S.A.C. After three years of College he was employed by Western Electric installing telephone switch boards and dial equipment in telephone central offices.
Served in the U.S army signal Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. On returning home he worked for Western Electric later transferring to Mountain Tel and Tel. Co. In January of 1952, he worked in engineering and plant depts. He retired at age 60. He married Natalena Pizzuto Feb 27, 1943; she passed away Feb 3, 1986. Later married Evelyn Wheeler Brady on May 20, 1958, she passed away Oct 25, 2001. They had 13 wonderful years together.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Salt Lake for 50 years and also a member of the Logan Presbyterian Church and Mt. Olympus Presbyterian church in Salt Lake, and member of Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his sister Caroleen Waite (Milton) of Florence, Oregon and two nephews and eight nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held in Logan at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on Wednesday, January 30th. A visitation will be held for family and friends at 11:30 a.m., funeral at 12:00 p.m. Interment in Logan City Cemetery.
