1930 ~2014
Salt Lake City, Utah-David Lee Butler passed away after a long struggle with health problems on February 26, 2014 at the age of 83. He was a trooper to the very end. He was born September 30, 1930 to Ellis Clark Butler and Fay Mary Clark Butler in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He married Jeannine A. Nemanich, later divorced. Married Opal Gill on March 27, 1999, they were devoted to each other through the good and difficult times and made a beautiful couple on the dance floor. David served his country honorably in the Army with the Seventh Cavalry Regiment during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat on October 1951 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He loved to play golf, chess, pool, fly airplanes and watch football.
Survived by his loving wife, Opal, his daughters Tena (Kevin)Thompson, Tonja (Paul) Clark, stepdaughter Heather Oliver Wynn, brother Clark Butler, sister Merrie Butler Heilpern, seven grandchildren Summer Anderson, Jenny Swensen, Justin Thompson, Kody Thompson, Danielle Okey, Jacob Clark, Candice Clark and 11 great grandchildren. Also survived by his five stepchildren, Judy Kirk, Dixie Krupicka, Steven Gill, Shelley Gill and Richard Gill (David and Richard had a very special bond.) David was also very close to his niece, Becky Butler Sontag, they enjoyed visiting with each other often. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Renee Butler Wynn.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Millcreek Hospice, especially Veronica, RN during these past two months and to the VA Hospital for their years of continued care.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your .
