Doss Dean Obituary

Doss A. Dean
March 17, 1919 ~ October 23, 2012
Doss was born on March 17, 1919 in St. Anthony, Idaho to Jenny and Dick Dean. The family moved to Bingham, Utah and later moved to Sandy, Utah where Doss attended and graduated from Jordan High School. He began attending Utah State University, but his education was interrupted by the events at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941.
Doss enlisted in the Army and very proudly served in the South Pacific during WWII. His experiences during the war were enduring and shaped his character. In 1946 he married Grace Aperrie and began his career as a carpenter and a devoted family man.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 30 years and worked in both residential and commercial construction. Doss and Grace were parents to their daughter Michaele (John) Couch, and sons, Dennis (Cindy) Dean and Mark Dean. Doss always enjoyed working with wood, but after his retirement he entered into a second career as a mink rancher in Sandy, Utah. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping. One of his favorite memories was negotiating the gravel highway to Alaska in his little red pick-up camper with his family. Doss was preceded in death by his wife Grace, son Mark, sister Dixie Mitchell, nephew Clark Mitchell, and son-in-law John Couch.
He spent his later years with his beloved companion Beatrice "Bea" Hansen traveling in their motor home and enjoying life and friends. The constructor in Doss always talked about the cruise he and Bea took to see the Panama Canal. Doss welcomed Bea's family as his own and became the step-father to another daughter Kristy (Ron) Fedrick. Doss is survived by his son, Dennis "Bo" and daughters, Michaele and Kristy, one niece, and two nephews, along with 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 27, 2012 at 11 am at the Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah. Friends and family are invited to a visitation one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Utah Department of Veteran's Affairs.
