George K. Grover Obituary
1927 ~ 2014
George K Grover, born August 18, 1927, in McCammon, Idaho, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014. He was the youngest of three children born to Clarence Barton and Sarah Alda Morris Grover. He graduated from Granite High School, later enlisting in the Merchant Marines, where he discovered he had a gift for cooking. Throughout his life, he loved making pies, bread, and other goodies for all to enjoy. He served with the United States Army in Japan at the conclusion of World War II in the Military Police. After returning home, he met and fell in love with Shirley, "the beauty in the fancy black car". He and Shirley Edith Henderson were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 17, 1949. George was a master homebuilder (Grover & Jackson Builders) in the Salt Lake Valley for many years. However, his most enduring building efforts took place within the walls of his own home. George served on the Board and then was President of The Holiday Water Company for 25 years. He loved his time there and the people he worked with. He was active in the LDS Church and served in many positions including Bishop, High Councilman, and Scout Master. He was an example of hard work and integrity. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren songs and often broke into a recitation of "The Cremation of Sam Magee" or "My Mother", by A. Ray Lee. He had a joke, saying, or song for any situation. An avid gardener, he loved to share his produce with family, friends and neighbors. October was a family favorite, harvesting from Grandpa's great pumpkin patch. George cherished his family ties, especially those from Canada. The doors of the "Grover Inn" were open to all. George and Shirley have six children, Barton K. (deceased), Kayleen White (Vic), R. Kelly Grover (Anita), Merrilee Jewell (Bob), Bruce Barton Grover (Esther) and Robyn Marie Park (Spencer). He has 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren all of whom he loves "a bushel and a peck". Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, son, Bart, and brother, B. Morris Grover. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Fagergren. Dad, we thank you for your loving example and the legacy you have left for our family to carry forward. We hope to make you proud. Thank you to Frankie and Sarah from Inspiration Home Health and Hospice, and the extraordinary staff of Sunrise at Holladay for all your loving care. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, 11:00 am at the Valley View 9th Ward, 1925 East Gunderson Lane. A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, and 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to services on Monday. Interment; Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be shared at www.murraymemorial.com.
