Gerald Archibald Haslam Obituary
Gerald Archibald Haslam
1931~2013
Bountiful, UT-Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Friend, Gerald (Jerry) Haslam, passed away October 2, 2013.
Jerry was born in Wellsville, Utah on January 21, 1931 to parents Henry G. and Charlotte Archibald Haslam. He married Bonnie Jean Haslam January 18, 1959. Bonnie passed away October 13, 1993. He married Bernice Haslam July 6, 2001. Jerry served in the United States Navy for seven years during the Korean War as a Gunner. After his service in the Navy, Jerry pursued his career and talents as a master carpenter. He was very well liked and respected in the construction business.
In 1960, he started his 33-year career at Hill Air Force Base as a Civil Engineer where he enjoyed designing and building many projects, including a large air base in Saudi Arabia where he spent a year completing the project. For many years he worked graveyards at Hill Field and days building homes in order to provide many wonderful family memories.
When his children were younger, he could be found on the road with his camper and boat headed to Flaming Gorge, wonderful times were spent there with family and friends. He literally spent hours a day in the boat pulling his children, their friends, and several nephews on skiis from one end of the gorge to the other. He was on several bowling leagues over the years, and he enjoyed dancing to big band era and country music. On his days off, you could find him helping his family and neighbors by completing remodels or special projects, or caring for his garden-he was most proud of his prize tomatoes. But, dad was the happiest when he was on the golf course with his children and grandchildren. Dad will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his love for teasing.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Bernice; children, Rhonda (Mark) Jensen, Scott (Jane) Haslam and Kent (Shauna) Haslam; brothers, Donald (Shirely) and Jack (Karolyn); sisters, Beth (Cloyd) Jessop and Fay (Howard-Deceased) Burderer; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; son, Jeff Haslam; and siblings, RaeArta, LaGrand, Dean, and Reed.
The family is going to have a private graveside service. There will be a viewing for family and friends Monday, October 7, 2013 6:30-8:30pm at Lakeview Memorial, 1640 E Lakeview Dr. Bountiful. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Inn on Barton Creek (especially his "little sister" Amy), and the South Davis Hospice for their kind care of Jerry in his final days.
