Gordon Emil Hansen, age 91, of Orem, passed away May 12, 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born on April 24, 1922 in Provo, Utah to Emil Valdemar and Ida Ramseyer Hansen.
He grew up in Provo and Orem graduating from Lincoln High School. He served in both the Air Force and Merchant Marines during World War II. He grew up working with his dad painting and wallpapering homes in Utah County. He attended Utah State University and attended and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in elementary education from Brigham Young University. Gordon taught for 19 years at Geneva and Cherry Hill Elementary Schools while continuing interior decorating.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various church capacities including several bishoprics as a counselor and also as the bishop of BYU 88th student ward. He also served 17 years in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples.
Gordon enjoyed fishing, gardening, and building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying and teaching the gospel.
He married LeLa Christensen of Lehi, Utah, June 10, 1946 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Gordon is survived by his four children, Kenneth (Barbara) Hansen, JaNae (Stephen) Earl of Tempe, Arizona, DeLynn (Dolly) Hansen, Shellee (Dennis) Day of Gilbert, Arizonia. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and his sister Geraldine Farnworth. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, LeLa, his sisters, Ruth Watkins and Ester Assay and his brother, Russell Hansen
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 11:00 a.m., Orem Cascade Stake building, 467 East Center Street, Orem, Utah. Viewings will take place Friday, May 17, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Orem Cascade Stake Building's Relief Society room in the North-East corner. All family members are invited to a luncheon in the Cascade Stake building following the grave site service at the Orem City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Perpetual Education Fund, Temple Fund or Missionary Fund.
