Grace Elizabeth Matthews Bagley
1923 ~ 2014
Centerville, UT-Grace Elizabeth Matthews Bagley, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Centerville, Utah after valiantly facing health challenges incident to her age. She was born September 9, 1923 in Odessa, Missouri to Fred Glen Matthews and Sarah Ann Bratton. She met her sweetheart, Joseph Wayne Bagley, in Kansas City, Missouri while he was serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. They were married on February 16, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas. After the war, they moved to Star Valley, Wyoming. She loved living near the Teton Mountains. There she learned of the gospel of Jesus Christ and not only taught the gospel to her family but lived it. Eventually they moved to Utah where their family was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1956. They were blessed with nine children. She lived her life to serve her family and those around her. Families often spoke of her wonderful homemade bread. Grace served faithfully in many church callings. She continued the challenge of raising six of her nine children after her husband passed away forty years ago. She enjoyed working at Mormon Handicraft and at the Grace Company Fine Quilting Frames, started in 1985 by her son, Jim. For the last several years she lived with her daughter Nancy Jeppson, who cared for her with love and devotion.
She is survived by seven of her children: Joe (Emelyn) Bagley, of Syracuse; Nancy (Doug) Jeppson of Centerville; Tony (Sharon) Bagley of Riverdale; Sally (Dee) Higley of Orem; Jim (Lori) Bagley of Bluffdale; Karyl (Rich) Montgomery of West Jordan; Karla (Clyde) Gerome of Salt Lake City; 44 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Jennings. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Wayne Bagley (1974), daughter, Sue, son, Fred, grandson, David, granddaughter, Annie Grace, great-grandson, Noah, her parents, sister, Irene and two brothers G.D. and Mark.
