James Ladean Thornton, son of Leo Eldon Thornton and Leva Bird Thornton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 2, 2014. He was born in Logan, Utah on February 17, 1930.
Dean was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, including the Chosin Reservoir campaign. He left Korea with shrapnel in his back and a Purple Heart on his chest. He joined the Utah Power & Light team when he returned and retired from that organization 35 years later as the Director of Customer Service.
In 1950 he married his eternal sweetheart, Carol, in the Manti Temple, Dean remained a faithful member of the LDS church throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by Carol, his true love of 63 years, and his four children: Scott (Julie), Sharon (Richard), Russ (Toni) and Deanna (Dan). Dean was also blessed with 10 grandchildren (one deceased) and three great grandchildren, and a fourth great grandchild is due at any moment.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the American Fork 13th Ward, 955 North 60 East. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial in Ogden at Lindquist Memorial Cemetery, 3408 South Washington Blvd.
The family would like to thank the amazing folks at Hearts for Hospice for the love and assistance they gave to both mom and dad over this past month. They would also like to thank the United States Marine Corps for providing the honor guard at Dad's interment.
