Jeanne Lawler passed away June 22, 2013 in Salt Lake City at 88.
She was born to Raymond Filip Peterson and Ebby Sam, August 26, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jeanne graduated from Minnehaha Academy High School in Minneapolis. A veteran of World War II, she served as a Spar in the U.S. Coast Guard Intelligence Division. As a graduate from Glendale Junior College in l948, she majored in German and minored in music. Her first marriage to Dr. William Boozer ended in divorce.
Jeanne and her daughter Lorna became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964. In 1967 Jeanne married Frederick C. Lawler of Farmington, Maine and acquired four step-children. Jeanne enrolled at BYU graduating at age 57 with a degree in Humanities. Fred and Jeanne lived in Maine for 18 years. After his retirement, they served an LDS mission in Ohio. He passed away in 1986. Subsequently she served five more missions. In 1994 Jeanne moved to Cedar City, Utah where she served faithfully in many Church callings.
Jeanne will be remembered for her wondrous gifts of music, especially five songs published in the LDS CHILDREN'S SONG BOOK "I Often Go Walking", "Hinges," "Family History, I am Doing it," "When Jesus Christ Was Baptized," and "The Holy Ghost." She found joy in living, made friends everywhere and had an adventurous spirit.
She is survived by daughter, Lorna Boozer Rosenstein (David) of Layton, Utah, three stepchildren Ann Fawson of Oregon, Sara Lawler of California, and Bill Lawler (Roberta) of Alpine, Utah, sisters Bernice Ahlquist of Minneapolis, and Carolyn Kinney (Kent) of Lake Bluff, Illinois, 14 grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick C. Lawler, stepson Jon Lawler, sister Marlys, brother Charles Peterson and grandson, Michael Rosenstein.
A memorial service will be held in Salt Lake on June 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at 270 East/500 South.
A funeral will be held in the Cedar City 9th Ward on June 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. located at 900 West 300 South. Friends and family are invited to a gathering one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com
The family offers sincere thanks to Dr. Amy Cowan, Claudette, Marykay Murray and Access Hospice care-givers, Lou and Al Otte and countless earthly angels who attended Jeanne.
