A True Hero and Friend
John E. Hughes, (Jack), passed away September 10, 2013 surrounded by family in South Salt Lake City, UT.
Jack was born December 22, 1924, in Murray, UT to Jack Franke Hughes and Vilda Mauss Hughes. He graduated from Murray High School, where he was a captain of the Football team. Jack served in the US Army during the 2nd World War, July 23, 1943-Ocotber 25, 1945. He married Bonnie Evelyn Wassmer August 14, 1947. He lived in Murray/South Salt Lake his whole life. Jack worked for several heating and air conditioning companies over the years. Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jack loved fishing and his family, cutting firewood and family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Bonnie, daughters, Jackie Hancock (Clint), Shawna Gray (Bob), Cindy Laird (Chris); 8 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, mother and father-in-law.
A private family viewing will be Friday, September 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, UT. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 13, 2013, 12:00 p.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens , 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City, UT.
Family would like to thank Wasatch Dialysis, St. Joseph's Villa, South Salt Lake City Fire Department and the South Salt Lake Police Department, as well as Symbii Hospice, and the Military Tribute from the Veteran Association.
