Joseph LaVon Moore Obituary
1944 - 2013
Joseph LaVon Moore, 68, of Bountiful, UT, returned to our Father in Heaven, Friday, April 26, 2013. Joseph lived a happy and productive life devoted to family, church, and community. He died as he lived - happy, at peace, and an inspiration to all. He was born to Lester Irwen Moore and Gladys Isabelle Pumphrey, Aug. 19, 1944, in Copperton, Utah. His father died at a young age and he was raised by his mother and grandparents. His mother remarried John P. Brown when he was nine.
Joe graduated with a BA in History and an MA in Planning from the University of Utah. He married Dawna Lee Schauerhamer on Aug. 20, 1968, who survives him, they raised their family in Bountiful, UT. Joe provided a loving and supportive home for seven of his own children, as well as many others. He was a loved and respected planner for West Valley City for over 30 years. Colonel Moore served in the US Army Reserve for 30 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and served an LDS mission in the Southwest British Mission and loved and served his Lord and guided his children to do the same.
Joe is survived by seven children: Brett Joseph, Carter Jay, Travis Clark, Davis Scott, Jessica Jo, Taylor John, and Tiffany Dawn, as well as by 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Lester Moore and Richard Brown. He joins his sister, Marilyn Moore, on the other side of the veil.
A viewing will be held Sunday, May 5, 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary (260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT). A second viewing will be held Monday, May 6, 9:45-10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral service 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Bountiful Orchard Stake Chapel (3599 S. Orchard Drive, Bountiful, UT).
